Sri Lanka Cricket officially announce rescheduling of ODI series due to heavy rains
The uncertainty surrounding the One-day series between Sri Lanka and West Indies has ended after the Sri Lanka Cricket officially announced the postponement of the five-match series until late January next year because of heavy rains
all over the island.
The decision was made after hours long discussion between the concerned boards - Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) - and the television partner. The SLC announced the decision of postponement shortly before
the start of the first One Day International in rain-hit Hambantota.
It had been raining in Hambantota persistently for the past few days and the weather forecasts for the next few days are also of rain showers but it was not clear until the eve of the opening one-day whether the ODI series would be
postponed or not. There were reports that the cricket boards of both the sides were working on rescheduling the series but Sri Lanka Cricket declined the reports, while the team management of West Indies cricket team did not officially comment on any plan.
What added to the confusion was the Twitter feed of former West Indies captain Chris Gayle as he posted a message on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that the one-day series had officially been called off and that he was
heading out of Sri Lanka. Despite Gayle’s twitter feed, the boards remained quiet upon the issue before officially declaring the postponement moments before the start of match.
The only thing that has been ] persistent all through the ill-timed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour of Sri Lanka was the rain as the players spent most of their time during drawn three-match Test series sitting in the dressing room watching the rainfall.
The rain-ruined Test series dropped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 from No. 3 to No. 5 on the ICC Test rankings and the frustrated Lankan skipper described the series as worst of his career.
"It's pretty frustrating and it's tough. I haven't seen rain like this in a long time. It was pretty frustrating to sit in the dressing room and watch the rain," said Sangakkara after the final day of the third Test was called off
due to incessant rain.
Now as the series has officially been postponed, the West Indies players will fly home tomorrow, 10th of December.
