Sri Lanka Cricket won’t appoint a head coach until England tour is over - DS de Silva
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket interim committee chairman DS de Silva on Sunday said that a successor to head coach Trevor Bayliss will be named after team’s tour of England commencing in May adding that in the meanwhile interim coach Stuart Law’s
performance would be monitored by the Sri Lanka Cricket.
"We've given him a chance to handle the team on the England tour and see whether he is going to fit into the scene " de Silva said while talking to media reporters. "…Until the tour is over we won't appoint a head coach," he added
further.
Former Sri Lanka head coach, Trevor Bayliss had earlier announced that he would step down from the role after the ICC World Cup 2011. After Bayliss left, Sri Lanka cricket team’s assistant coach Stuart Law has been appointed as interim
coach for the upcoming tour of England. Law has been assisting Bayliss since November 2009 and of the five shortlisted candidates, he is the best contender for the position of head coach.
The other three men in the running for the coaching role are former England batsman Matthew Maynard, former Sri Lanka coach Tom http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moody-c77690 and Moody’s former assistant coach Trevor Penney. Talking about the shortlisted candidates, de Silva
said that they had advertised for the post more than a month ago and got a response from nine professionals but off the nine they have shortlisted only five.
"We knew about two months ago that Bayliss was leaving so we advertised in the web and papers, both internationally and locally. Nine responded from which we shortlisted five persons," said the SLC interim committee chairman. "Everybody
showed interest [and] we have already interviewed two of them on the phone,” he added further.
De Silva told the reporters that former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 was also among the nine but SLC could not afford his terms. He also revealed that the board is in negotiations with the former Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu
for the batting coach post. He hinted that Atapattu might move with the team for the England tour, given SLC and the former cricketer reach an agreement over the terms of reference.
