In the ongoing Sri Lankan Premier Limited Over Tournament, Nondescripts Cricket Club won the first semi-final of the tournament by four runs against Colts Cricket Club on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Moors Sports Club Ground, Colombo.
After winning the toss, Colts Cricket Club, decided to field first on a cloudy morning in order to take full advantage of the playing conditions, which were more suited for bowling.
Meanwhile, Nondescripts knew that they needed to post a decent total on the board in order to win the crucial game as their opponents had formidable batsmen to chase a tough tally on a given day.
Colts struck early, as they grabbed their first wicket on the third delivery of the match at a time when the batting side had failed to post a single run on the board.
From Nondescripts, opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kaluarachchige-Yohan-de-Silva-c70031 was their first casualty, as he found his way back to the pavilion without scoring a run.
After the demise of their opener, the batting side prevented the bowlers from getting further breakthroughs, as opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Demintha-Harshan-Dahanayake-c53541 crafted a challenging partnership together.
The duo clobbered 71 runs together, annihilating the Colts bowling attack piece by piece. It was then in the 17th over, when the Colts made another breakthrough by dismissing Maharoof, who walked off the field after amassing 39 runs, off 63 deliveries.
Dahanayake, then formed another potent partnership with fellow batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CK-Kapugedera-c1269, as the two batsmen smashed 42 runs in the third-wicket partnership.
Kapugedera, was dismissed in the 24th over, after the batsman contributed an innings of 27 runs to help his side take the tally to 113 runs.
Meanwhile, Dahanayake and middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jehan-Mubarak-c66822 smashed 60 runs each, to help their side post a daunting total of 263 runs at the end of their 50 overs.
Before Colts could come out to bat, rain delayed their innings and subsequently the match was reduced to 45 overs, which meant that the side batting second needed 225 runs to win.
However, Nondescripts bowled commendably well by restricting the batsmen from scoring against them, as Colts could only muster 220 runs for the loss of six wickets at the end of 45 overs.
From Nondescripts, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohan-de-Silva-Boralessa-c90669, was the most successful bowler with three wickets to his name.
