Saracens Sports Club 96 v Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club 98 - Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club won by 5 wickets (with 127 balls remaining)
In the ongoing Sri Lankan domestic Premier Limited Over Tournament, Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club beat their rivals Saracens Sports Club by five wickets in the Tier B first semi-final at Colts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
Saracens Sports Club chose to bat first, after winning the toss, aiming to post enough runs on the board to give their bowlers a fighting chance in the match.
However, disappointingly for the fans, Saracens played a meagre innings where they could only muster 96 runs on the board in 32.2 overs.
Saracens lost their first wicket on the fourth delivery of the first over, when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mananadevage-Amila-Sandaruwan-c74099 was dismissed without scoring a run. At the time of his demise, the side had posted only six runs on the board.
On the first delivery of the next over, Navy struck again as they removed opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dilan-Harshana-Sandagirigoda-c54075 with just a run to his name.
A delivery later, middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gamindu-Kanishka-Amarasinghe-c58341 also walked back to the pavilion without scoring a run.
With three wickets down for only six runs, this was the worst possible start Saracens could have to their innings.
Later in the innings, Chamod Pathirana was the only batsman who showed some colour while batting against the rampant Navy bowling attack as he watched wickets crumble on the other end.
The batsman stayed unbeaten on 47 runs as his team finished its innings without posting a daunting total on the board.
From Navy, bowlers Sattambi Chamika and Dulanjana Mendis caused the most problems for the batting side as they grabbed seven wickets together.
With an unimpressive tally to overcome, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Navy Sports Club reached the total in 28.5 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Opener, Dhanushka Gurusinghe, scored 26 runs, while lower-middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lokukuruppu-Arichchilage-Chanaka-Ruwansiri-c73116 smashed an innings of 37 runs to help the side win the game.
