In the second semi-final of the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament Tier B, Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club beat Sri Lanka Army Sports Club by one run at Panadura Esplanade, on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
After winning the toss, Ports Authority chose to field first in a bid to halt the opposition from posting a formidable total against them.
However, Army Sports club had other things on their mind, as they wanted to post enough runs on the board to give their rivals a run for their money.
However, they lost their first wicket with only 31 runs on the board, when opener Rishan Kavinga had his stumps shattered by pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Galkandage-Don-Romesh-Eranga-c58330, after playing a knock of 13 runs.
With 73 runs on the board, Army lost their second wicket when number-three batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Seekkuge-Prasanna-c89140, found his way back to the pavilion after hammering 21 runs off 29 deliveries.
Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Feshal-c76884 and middle-order batsman Roshan Jayatissa prevented the bowling side from wrecking havoc on them by controlling the situation after the early demise of their skipper.
The two batsmen clobbered 53 in the fourth-wicket-partnership, before Jayatissa lost his wicket in the 27th over, after playing a knock of 25 runs.
Meanwhile, Feshal hammered a stupendous knock of 57 runs and right-hand batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Downdegedara-Asela-Sampath-Gunaratne-c54651, smashed 47 runs to help the side reach a tally of 247 runs.
However, before Ports Authority could come out to chase the daunting tally, rain caused the Duckworth–Lewis method (D/L method) to come into play, which reduced the asking tally to 205 runs from 35 overs.
Ports skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karunage-Ranesh-Nishan-Uddipana-Perera-c70353 (43) played an important role as they helped their side win the match
