http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sachithra-Madushanka-Senanayake-c87813’s 5-wicket haul played a crucial role in propelling the Sinhalese Sports Club to a comprehensive 57-run win over the Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club, in their list A match during the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament, played at the Navy Ground in Welisara, today on December 15.
The Sinhalese SC won the toss and chose to bat first, and while most of the batsmen managed to get starts, the Navy SC’s Dulanjana Mendis (10-0-34-3), Supershala Jayathilake (9-0-38-3), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lokukuruppu-Arichchilage-Chanaka-Ruwansiri-c73116 (3-0-17-2) bowled them out for a final total of 197.
Coming in at number three, wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashtayage-Dhanushka-Gunathilleke-c75001 (24), and Upul Bandara (21) were the only other batsmen who managed to cross the 20-run mark.
The rest remained average – middle-order batsmen Bhanuka Rajapaksa (2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wijesinghe-Mudiyanselage-Charith-Jayampathi-c96551 (1) were both insipid, and tail-enders Sachithra Senanayake (0) and Kasun Madushanka (4*) failed to contribute much by way of runs. By the 49th over, the Sinhalese SC found themselves all out at a final total of 197.
However, the team made up for it by launching a fierce bowling attack, and Sachithra Senanayake (8.4-1-29-5), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waduthantrige-Geeth-Rasanga-Kumarasiri-Alwis-c95834 (6-1-23-2), and Dhanushka Gunathilleke (9-1-29-2) all joined forces to ensure that the Navy SC did not come within range of the 198-run target.
Only four of the Navy SC’s batsmen surpassed single digits. Opening batsman Dhanushka Gurusinghe was the top-scorer for his team, with 46, while Chanaka Ruwansiri (23), Lakmal Keerthiratne (20), and Anura Wegodapola (12) were the only other batsmen who managed to put up a fight.
Top-order batsmen Sithara Perera (1), Duleeka Thissakuttige (9) gave their wickets away cheaply, while Yohan Kumara (0) and wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thanthirige-Ranil-Rasanga-c93112 (4) were similarly disappointing.
Supeshala Jayathilake (9), Dulanjana Mendis (0*), and Nishantha Weerakkody (0) all failed to lift the team in the later stages of the match, and within 36 overs, the Navy SC were all out at 140, with the Sinhalese SC going on to claim a 57-run victory.
