Sri Lanka V Pakistan: 3rd Test – Day 1, First session recap
Sri Lanka were 75 for 1 at the end of the first session of the first day of ongoing third and final Test of the three-match series underway at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in Sharjah.
The time match umpires called for the lunch break, Sri Lankan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 was playing at 24 with the former Lanka captain, Kumar Sangakkara at the other end of the crease, unbeaten at 25.
An early departure of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132
was the only factor that limited the progress of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the opening session of the day on a batting friendly Sharjah track.
Paranavitana departed on the fifth ball of the day as Tillakaratne Dilshan opted to bat first after winning the toss. The right handed batsman was given a chance by Azhar Ali on the fourth ball of Umar Gul’s opening over when Ali
missed a sharp chance given by the Lankan at the short leg.
Umar Gul ensured the drop makes no difference as Pranavitana failed to capitalize on the chance given to him by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 at second slip.
After Paranavitana’s departure for just 4, Dilshan and Sangakkara took the charge and made sure the side does not lose another batsman in the remaining part of the session. Tillakaratne Dilshan, who has been struggling
with the bat in the ongoing series, shrugged off his indifferent form and along with Mr dependable http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 guided the Lankans to 75 for 1 at lunch.
The batting friendly Sharjah wicket seemed to be quite bouncy and bowling friendly as the ball continued to
move around early on.
Pakistan came close to claiming Sri Lanka’s second wicket when Kumar Sangakkara was almost run out in the third over after his partner, Dilshan did not respond to his call for a single.
After that Sri Lanka calmly progressed through the session before Dilshan survived a bouncer off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604, thanks to umpire Shavir in the last over of the session Tarapore. The bouncer, after kissing Dilshan’s glove flew to wicketkeeper,
Adnan Akmal, who dived to his left to take a spectacular catch, but the umpire thought it might have come after hitting Dilshan’s chest or the helmehttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472.
