Sri Lanka all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan gives credit to India for winning ICC World Cup 2011
Sri Lanka’s prolific all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan has said that India should be given full credit of winning the ICC World Cup 2011 final.
He said that his side was outclassed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 and his men in all three departments of the game.
Talking to a leading sports channel, the Sri Lanka opener said that they had high hopes of winning the coveted trophy adding that losing to India in the final was quite disappointing for them.
“Full credit to India. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 cricketer. “But it's sad - really a very bad feeling - that Sri Lanka were runners-up on both
occasions.”
Dilshan, who was also part of the ICC World Cup 2007 final squad which lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, scored 33 runs with the bat against India and claimed Virat Kohli’s wicket as well. However he said that he would have been happy with his performance
had he stayed on the crease for 10 more overs and put up a better partnership with Kumar Sangakkara.
Dilshan feels his cautious approach after losing Upul Tharanga quite early led to his dismissal for just 33.
“After Upul Tharanga went early, as a result of Zaheer Khan's superb bowling, I was forced to take a step back and made sure I stayed in,” said the 34-year-old batsman. “If I had stuck with my natural game and played aggressive shots, there
was a danger of India taking my wicket.”
Dilshan reckoned that his dismissal in the final was his most sorry one in the tournament. He said that the ball hit his pad after hitting the armguard and went onto hitting the stumps.
He said that had he stayed at the crease a bit longer, Sri Lanka would have amassed a 300-plus total which might have changed the outcome of the grand finale.
The 2 April ICC World Cup 2011 final between India and Sri Lanka played at the Wankhede Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 was the first-ever all-Asia World Cup final which the Men in Blue won by 6 wickets in the end.
