Sri Lanka will take a 547-run lead into day three of the second Test of their series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The hosts began the match in Colombo with a 1-0 series lead over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157 with a winning end to his Test career in the opening match and, as they had in Galle, batted strongly in their first innings to leave India with a mountain to climb with their run-chase.
Sri Lanka finally declared their innings on 642-4, with Mahela Jayawardene’s dismissal for 174 proving the catalyst for Kumar Sangakkara’s decision to send India in to bat before the end of the second day’s play.
As impressive as Jayawardene’s innings was, it wasn’t the biggest score made by the Sri Lankans, with Sangakkara notching the seventh Test double century of his career (he now has more double tons in Test cricket than any active player) before his dismissal for 219. Opener Tharanga Paranavitana also delivered his second Test ton in as many matches, following up his 111 in Galle with an even 100 in the current match.
Sent in to bat early in the final session of the day, India openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 (22 not out) took the visitors to 95 without loss at stumps.
