Sri Lanka cricket haunted by match fixing since 1992
In shocking news for the cricketing world, former Sri Lanka captain, Hashan Tillakaratne, has said that match-fixing is prevalent in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 cricket since 1992.
Tillekaratne, who captained Sri Lanka in 10 Tests in 2003-04 seasons, promised that he would reveal the names of the involved cricketers in the near future.
Tillakaratne stated, “I can tell this in agreement with my conscience. Match fixing is not something that started happening yesterday or today. According to my knowledge, it happened since 1992. I say this with great responsibility”.
He added that that match fixing is a very serious issue, which has been spreading everywhere like cancer. However, he said that he is unaware that if any such offense took place in the ICC World Cup Final, on April 2, 2011.
While talking to the media, former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Tillakaratne said, “There were threats of this issue being exposed during various times. But it was pushed down by giving money to various people. If the people who were responsible for that are
listening to this, I state this today with great responsibility, I will shortly reveal the names of those responsible”.
The former Lankan captain also said that he wanted to make the revelations because a huge number of people follow the sport and they don't know about this side of the game. He denied clearly saying that the recent ICC World Cup 2011 final was fixed, however,
he said he had a bit of problems with a few selections made in that match.
Hashan Tillakaratne was Sri Lanka’s outstanding wicketkeeper. His international cricket career started from 1986-2003. He has played 200 One Day Internationals (ODI), in which he has scored 3789 runs at an average of 29.60.
Match-fixing is a menace, which has marred the gentlemen's game for over two decades now. Former players, Saleem Malik, Aqib Javed, Ata ur Rehman, Ajay Jadeja, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021, have been involved in such malpractices
in the past.
In addition, Shane Warne and Mark Waugh have also been reported to have links with bookmakers in the past. The ICC is working overtime to ensure that the game stays clean and free from corruption. It has also formulated an Anti-Corruption and Security Unit
(ACSU) for the purpose to ensure that no player, or, match official gets involved in match, or, spot fixing.
