Sri Lanka eager to postpone next year’s home Test series against South Africa – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka Cricket has reportedly requested their South African counterparts to postpone next year’s home Test series against the Proteas until 2014, in a bid to accommodate a triangular ODI series.
As per International Cricket Council’s (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, during that time frame.
The triangular series was originally meant to be played after the Indian Premier League earlier this year, but Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760’ international commitments led to the cancelation of the event.
Cricket South Africa’s acting Chief Executive Officer Jacques Faul did not give a positive response when reached for a comment, saying, "We are not keen on cancelling Tests."
"It goes through a process where we send it to the team management and then the logistics manager. We try to help other countries as much as we can but they will have to give reasons for wanting no Tests. When you cancel Tests, you've got to be careful because there are broadcasting issues," Jacques Faul added further.
Accepting Sri Lanka’s request would mean no away Test matches for the Proteas next winter. South Africa last toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 for a bilateral series in 2006, when they played only two Tests before remainder of the itinerary was called off due to security issues.
It is pertinent to mention here that Cricket South Africa had last week turned down Pakistan Cricket Board’s request to change the dates for next year’s tour, citing busy international schedule as the reason.
"We always try to accommodate other countries but we can't always manage. The program is very busy these days. We also play our domestic competitions while tours are ongoing," Faul had said after rejecting PCB’s request to alter the dates of the itinerary in a bid to expand their (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s) 12-day window for launching a domestic Twenty20 league, in March next year.
