Sri Lanka go ahead of India in ICC ODI rankings
According to the latest International Cricket Council rankings released for the one-day internationals, Sri Lanka have usurped India as the number two side in the cricket world. This follows Sri Lanka’s
win over Australia away from home that would have afforded some extra points, given that it was not at home and against a side which is ranked number one in the world.
Sri Lanka, who had never won a series in Australia, got three points from the series win. This meant that they had moved up to 118, which was one more than http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. India had last played an ODI series against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in August and the lack of internationals in the ensuing period hurt their chances.
Australia, on the other hand, are now on 128 points and 10 clear of the Lankan side. This was despite the home loss to Sri Lanka.
Third-placed India will now need to ensure that they win the series against New Zealand 5-0 if they want to go ahead of Sri Lanka again. However, if the Indians win it 4-1, they will go on to 118, but fall
short of Sri Lanka’s tally by a fraction. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will also have their own chances to defend the number two spot when they face a relatively easier opposition in West Indies in a home series.
At number four is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 3-2. This win means that they are on 115 points with one more ODI series to go before the start of the World Cup – against India. A win in
that series could push them to the number three position.
And in what should be the last ODI series before the World Cup, England will follow up their Ashes campaign with a five-match ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. England is currently ranked fifth. Pakistan is currently
ranked sixth, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 fill up the number nine and ten position.
