Sri Lanka hints to revive international cricket in Pakistan by playing a series this year

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has long been in touch with the SLC to convince the later to send its team to Pakistan for playing a series-an effort to revive the international cricket in the country that is marred by security threats. The SLC has hinted
to have a Test and an ODI series on the soil of Pakistan towards the end of the calendar year, but before any final decision, the SLC will take the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Pakistan Task Force on board.
The SLC’s secretary of interim committee, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713, said, “Sri Lanka Cricket will be pleased to honor our future tours commitment in Pakistan which is scheduled for October-November this year, where they will play three Test and five ODIs”.
Sri Lanka Cricket Team had to confront with a disastrous terrorist attack on 3 March, 2009 when it was on an official tour in Pakistan. The armed men opened fires on the team’s vehicle squad that was passing by Liberty Market Lahore, Pakistan. Rescuing the
incident, 7 policemen and a vehicle driver were killed while some Sri Lankan cricketers got injured.
This outrageous incident tarnished the already misprinted image of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and since then no team has dared to visit Pakistan for a game. Apart from the cricket blackout, Pakistan also stripped of the rights to host the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 that is
now being co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
Describing players’ reservations with the tour, Nishantha said, “There are concerns over the tour taking place. Most of the players in the current team were in the middle of that unfortunate incident”.
Following the March 2009 incident, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 set up a Task Force for Pakistan that was entrusted to look into the security issue of Pakistan with reference to cricket matches. The SLC will not decide anything unilaterally unless ICC mandates it. Nishantha
went on to say, “If the tour is to become a reality, the ICC first should be fully satisfied that the conditions in Pakistan are conducive to stage international cricket”.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka are two neighboring nations. Apart from having many cultural, historical and territorial links, they are also trade partners. Both the nations have been in cordial relationship since the beginnings. Pakistan has helped Sri Lanka on
many critical occasions and vice versa. Now Sri Lanka wants to be the first nation to retrieve the international cricket in Pakistan.
