Sri Lanka name squad for 2013 Women’s World Cup – Cricket News Update

Shashikala Siriwardene, who took over the T20 captaincy from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manodara-Acharige-Don-Dilani-Surangika-c74221 for the Women's World T20 Championship at home in October, has been given the reins of the side for the 50-overs World Cup as well. Siriwardene has to date led the Sri Lankan women in 34 One Day Internationals, but in only one in the last two years.
The Sri Lankan selectors have made two changes from the squad that played in the Women's Asia Cup T20s in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanjeewani-Inoka-Galagedara-c88668.
A total of eight teams, split into two groups of four each, will compete in the latest edition of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 women's ODI World Cup.
The hosts India, title holders England, Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 constitute the other half.
The tournament kick starts on January 31 and will run till March 9, 2013. The curtain raiser will be played between former champions Australia and Pakistan at the Bandra Kurla Complex of Mumbai.
Sri Lanka will begin their World Cup campaign against defending champions England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 2. The Lankan women are also scheduled to play two warm-up matches ahead of the esteemed tournament. They will take on New Zealand in the first practice match at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai on January 28, before playing the South African women at the Middle Income Group Ground, Bandra, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, a day later.
