Sri Lanka name squad for India series – Cricket News Update
Sri Lankan selectors, on Monday named the 15-member squad for the upcoming home One Day International series against India, commencing at Hambantota, on July 21.
Left-arm seamer Isuru Udana, who made his T20 International debut in June 2009 and is yet to represent his country in ODIs and Tests, has finally succeeded in earning a spot in the ODI squad. The 24-year-old is the only uncapped
player in the 15-man squad.
The left-armer played five of his six T20Is in 2009 and was then sidelined for three years. He was recalled in to national squad last month, for the T20 series against Pakistan. Udana had an impressive 2011-12 domestic season
with Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, where he picked up 26 first-class wickets at an average of 25.76. Currently he is in Zimbabwe with the Sri Lanka A team, to play in a tri-series, which also features hosts Zimbabwe and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
While most of the players from the squad that played against Pakistan last month have been retained, Fast bowlers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CRD-Fernando-c1292 and Nuwan Pradeep, failed to keep their spots in the squad. Slow left-arm orthodox bowler Sajeewa
Weerakoon, who was a late inclusion in the national squad for recently concluded Pakistan series, as Rangana Herath’s replacement, also failed to make cut for the India series.
Those making a comeback to the squad include Chamara Kapugedera and left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in March this year, Herath was rested for
the final three ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in March.
Kapugedera is also touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 with A team, to regain a spot ahead of the India series, which will be followed by the home World T20 Championship, in September.
The five-match ODI series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka will be hosted by Hambantota, Colombo and Pallekele, between July 21 and August 4.
