Sri Lanka reduce India to 47/4 by end of 10 overs – Cricket News Roundup – July 24, 2012 – Part 3
Owing largely to Thisara Perera’s 3 for 6, Sri Lanka made early inroads and reduced India to 47 for 4 by the end of the 10th over during the second ODI of the 5-match series, currently being played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International
Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa, Hambantota today on July 24.
India won the toss and elected to bat first, going in with an unchanged side. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Xavier-Ford-c60657 had claimed that the loss
of Kulasekara was a big blow to the side.
However Perera barely let the medium pacer’s absence be felt. Following their 21-run win in the first match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 was dismissed by Perera for 15, followed by the previous game’s Player of
the Match http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, who found himself walking back to the pavilion on 1 by the 6th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 (5) are currently at the crease, and India will be banking on them to bring
the team’s innings back on track.
Cricket South Africa have congratulated the national side for the massive victory they recently secured over England in the first Test of the ongoing 3-match series, played at the Kennington Oval in London from July 19 to 23.
“There is still much work to be done to clinch the series,” said CSA’s Acting CEO Jacques Faul. “But this is a moment to celebrate what has been a wonderful team performance of high quality and intensity.”
“There have been standout performances from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 but there have also been many unsung heroes.”
South Africa won by an innings and 12 runs, following superb batting displays by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 (who scored a 131 while playing his 100th Test), and Player of the Match Hashim Amla (whose 311 made him the first South
African batsman to score 300+ in Tests). The batsmen racked up a mammoth score of 637, and the bowlers finished England off on the last day, with Dale Steyn (5 for 56) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir (3 for 63) playing key roles.
An additional T20I match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 has been added to Bangladesh’s fixtures for their ongoing tour of Europe, in order to fulfil the qualifications for a place on the ICC’s top T20 teams table.
Their recent 3-0 whitewash of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 saw the Tigers moving up to 4th place on the ICC’s T20 team rankings. However, rules dictate that only teams who have played a minimum of 8 T20s since the August 1 mark are eligible to qualify for a place
on the table.
In order to fulfil the requirements, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 on July 24 at Sportpark Westvliet, The Hague, followed by another only T20I against the Netherlands on July 25 at the same venue, will be
fitting an additional match against the Netherlands, due to be played on July 26, into their schedule.
The promotion to number 4 sees Bangladesh placed above teams such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and Sri Lanka in the top four.
