http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 series will assist in adapting to conditions for World Cup- Otis Gibson
Otis Gibson, the West Indies cricket team coach, has said that the upcoming Sri Lankan tour will help players adapt to conditions in the ICC World Cup that is going to be played in the Indian subcontinent next month.
West Indies and Sri Lanka will play a three-match One Day International (ODI) series and all the matches will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground (SSC) in Colombo. The first match of the series is going to be played on 31st January.
The team from the Caribbean will play their warm matches in Sri Lanka, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 will host their group matches in the World Cup.
Gibson said, “It is a good opportunity to put some of the plans in place that we are going to take into the World Cup. When we went for the Test series we did really well as a team and we made progress. We also had a chance to get used to the conditions. The players are fresh out of the Caribbean Twenty20 and are ready for what we have coming up".
The World Cup team is divided into two groups. West Indies are a part of Group B, which includes teams such as, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751.
The West Indies coach is pretty confident about the chances of his team in cricket’s global event. The team houses highly talented individuals, who can turn the game on their own. They have to make sure that they play well together as a unit.
However, they haven’t tasted a semi-final feast, since the 1996 World Cup when they lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in a hard fought encounter.
He said, "I think we have a team that can win the World Cup. We will go there with the expectation of doing very well and putting ourselves in a position where we can reach the semi-finals, which is a very realistic possibility. We are not listed among the favourites and that could work in our favour".
Earlier, the three-match Test series between the hosts and the visiting team ended in a draw. And the series was to be followed by five fifty-over matches, but they were rescheduled due to a rainy season. These three ODIs are a part of that re-organized tour.
