Sri Lanka spin king Muttiah Muralitharan to retire from Test cricket
Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan – a cricketing legend and the leading wicket taker in Test match history – will retire from the longest form of the game after the first Test of the forthcoming series with India in Galle, which begins on July 18th.
The 38-year-old has claimed an incredible 792 wickets in 132 Tests for Sri Lanka since making his debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in August 1992, and overtook Shane Warne as Test cricket’s leading wicket-taker in December 2007.
"Murali" has taken 10 wickets in a match on 22 separate occasions, but a succession of injury problems have led him to take the decision to retire from the Test arena in order to prolong his One Day International career – where he is also the all-time leading wicket taker with 515 – through to the 2011 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka.
