The Sri Lanka selectors have made two changes in the squad named for the second of two Test series - including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735.
The 24-year-old Mathews played his last ODI match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the league match of the Commonwealth Bank series, but missed the finals as well as Asia Cup due to a calf injury. However, his all-round performance during the CB series compelled the
selectors to induct him in the team as soon as recovered.
Mathews replaced 32-year-old Chamara Silva, who was included in the first Test match squad after the all-rounder failed to pass his fitness test. The right-hander however, will not not be bowling in this match and is included as a batsman.
"Mathews has been declared fit and we have brought him in but he will not bowl," said chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashantha-Lakdasa-Francis-de-Mel-c46253
The other change being made in the squad is the inclusion of right-arm fast bowler, Shaminda Eranga, who in his only Test match against Australia has grabbed five wickets, including Shane Watson’s wicket which he took on his first ball.
The 25-year-old however, has not been given a chance since September 2011 and is now included in place of left-arm pacer, Welegedera.
"Welegedera bowled with some discomfort during the Galle test and a scan revealed that he had strained his groin," told de Mel.
Even though the right-arm pacer, Eranga is included in the squad, his chances of playing are grim, as the chief selector hopes to include Dhammika Prasad with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ranasinghe-Arachchige-Suranga-Lakmal-c83928 in final eleven.
Earlier, the Lankans registered their first victory at home soil after the retirement of legendary spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864, defeating England in the first Test-match by 75 runs. This victory came as a huge relief for the Asian Giants after a dismal
Asia Cup campaign.
“I'll be very proud to be on the field on Tuesday and even prouder if we can claim a series victory,” said Jayawardene.
