Sri Lanka v England 2011 - Jade Dernbach hopes to cement place in ODI team
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jade-Winston-Dernbach-c65256, the English pacer, is hopeful of cementing his place in the One Day International (ODI) team after delivering a match-winning performance in his maiden ODI against Sri Lanka on June 28, 2011.
He believes that his successful start can lead to a bright future and he expects that the English selectors will let him retain his position in the 50-over format of the game.
Dernbach made his ODI debut in the 1st ODI of the series of five against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 won the game by 110 runs. It was also Alastair Cook's first ODI as skipper.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 bowler thinks that his convincing performance can go a long way to satisfy England Cricket Board (ECB), which has a variety of pacers, for the national side.
Dernbach said, “It was amazing. To get the call up in the first place I was over the moon but then to make my debut at my home ground was the cherry on top. It was everything I could have wished for. I had my mum and dad there and a few friends”.
He went on to say, “I want to play every game that England play but we have a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566 and Woakesy on the sidelines on Tuesday night and they are both fantastic bowlers. I know I have to stay on top of my game to keep those two out”.
In his post-match comments, Dernbach also praised http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asif-Iqbal-Razvi-c46481 took 4 wickets for just 18 runs in the game.
Dernbach staged his T20I debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in a one-off game on June 25 at Bristol.
The 25-year old right-arm pacer has 61 First-Class, 65 List A and 39 T20 matches to his credit. He is still waiting for his Test debut.
Dernbach is having a tough time in practice sessions, as he is keen to sustain his momentum in the 2nd ODI that is set to be played at Leeds tomorrow, July 1.
