Sri Lanka v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 – 2nd Test – 3rd Day’s Recap
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 275 & 4/0 (1.0 ov) v England 460 - Sri Lanka trail by 181 runs with 10 wickets remaining
After making resurgence in the series by giving a fantastic batting performance on the second day of the second and last Test against Sri Lanka by clobbering 154 runs for the loss of only one wicket, England resumed their first innings on the third day at P Sara Oval, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on April 05, in a bid to post a staggering total by the end of the day.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576, who walked off the field unbeaten on 15 looked well set to play a big innings on the second day of their first innings.
Both batsmen created enough troubles for the Sri Lankan bowlers as they dominated the first session of play, hammering away even the best of deliveries.
With a mammoth ton of 213 runs on the board, Cook became the first causality of the day as he fell after smacking a resilient innings of 94 runs. The demise of Cook was a sorry tale for his fans as he looked destined to score a century.
However, this was not the end of miseries for Sri Lanka as Cook's departure brought England’s exuberant all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 on the crease, who cited a long innings alongside Trott as the batsmen subdued the bowlers by playing some of the finest shots in modern-day cricket.
Trott was the next to depart as he left the side on 253 runs after clobbering an inspiring innings of 64 runs.
However, Pietersen on the other end, seemed destined to hit a big one as he dealt the Sri Lankan bowlers with art and technique good enough to stay on the crease for as long as possible. The batsman made sure to keep the scoreboard ticking in order to increase the pressure on the Sri Lankans.
Middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597, provided Pietersen just the type of backup that was required in that situation as he kept taking singles and doubles while Pietersen went after the bowlers.
Then after belting an important innings of 18 runs, it was time for Bell to take his bow as he departed at a time when his side were on 347 runs.
The partnership of Bell and Pietersen did maximum damage and brought Sri Lank back to their knees.
Wicketkeeper/batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984, then failed to prosper as he lost his wicket quickly after posting 11 runs. At the time of his wicket, England were on 380 runs.
Next to go was Pietersen, who when England were on 411 runs lost his wicket after playing an astounding innings of 151 runs. His brave innings included 16 boundaries and six sixes.
Later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426, played an innings of 29 runs to help his team post 460 runs before losing all their wickets.
Sri Lankan openers, Dhammika Prasad and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettige-Don-Rumesh-Lahiru-Thirimanne-c63124 could muster only four runs before stumps.
From Sri Lanka, left arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559 was the number-one bowler with six wickets to his name.
