Sri Lanka v England-Second Innings: Openers steer their team into the semis
Sri Lanka have reached the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2011 by thrashing the English team by an emphatic margin of 10 wickets in the fourth quarter-final of the mega event at Colombo.
This is a thumping victory for the home team as the cricket analysts were expecting Andrew Strauss and company to give a tough time to the Sri Lankan Tigers. However, that was not to be and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the first semi-final of
the tournament at the same venue on Tuesday.
Chasing a competitive total under lights, Sri Lankan team were off to a great start through their openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga. Both of them did not look in any kind of trouble throughout their partnership and threw the English team out
of the competition. They played their shots at will and eventually helped their team cross the line without losing a single wicket.
Dilshan and Tharanga completed their well-deserved centuries as well and achieved the target with more than 10 overs to spare. Dilshan was the top scorer as he scored 108 runs off 115 balls with the help of 10 fours and a couple of massive hits out of the
park.
Tharanga remained unbeaten on 102 runs for which he consumed 122 balls and struck 12 fours and a towering six.
None of the English bowlers were able to make an impression and failed to give their team any breakthroughs.
Dilshan was rightly named as the Player of the Match for his outstanding hundred and a good spell of off-spin bowling earlier in the day with the new ball.
This is a huge victory for the Sri Lankan team as they have reached the semi-final stage of the global event for the third consecutive time. They are tipped to be the favourites to play the final against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by beating the Black Caps in the
semi-final.
Whereas, England would be disappointing with their World Cup campaign as they failed to perform up to the mark in the group stages as well.
