Hampered by the absence of veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890, who went on to claim a 4-wicket haul, Sri Lanka painstakingly set India a 252-run chase at the end of their innings during the ongoing 4th ODI of
the 5-match series, currently being played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettige-Don-Rumesh-Lahiru-Thirimanne-c63124 joined
the side in his absence, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isuru-Udana-c64628 was replaced by Nuwan Pradeep.
India, high on confidence, with a 2-1 lead in the series, made one change in their line-up, which  went on to make all the difference – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-Sharma-c83352 was substituted with Manoj Tiwary.
Sri Lanka opened their innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 (42), and the hosts appeared off to a solid start. The opening duo established a solid 91-run stand which came to a sudden end with the dismissal of Dilshan in the 19th
over – caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashok-Dinda-c1098.
Thirimanne (47) was next up to bat, but Tharanga was unable to partner him for long. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 (28) to step up to bat.
Thirimanne and Chandimal attempted to recapture the momentum the openers had displayed, posting a combined total of 50 runs on the board. However, the partnership was broken up in the 32nd over, as Tiwary claimed Chandimal for his first victim.
Skipper Jayawardene was up next, but put forth a disappointing display, contributing a mere 3 runs before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 intervened to see him off.
The remainder of the batting order put up mediocre performances. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 (14) joined Thirimanne for a 35-run 5th-wicket partnership, but Tiwary swept in once again, dismissing the all-rounder in the 42nd over, to leave the hosts
at 190 for 5.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 owed the next two dismissals to Tiwary as well, with both Jeevan Mendis (17) and Thisara Perera (2) falling prey to the destructive 26-year-old spinner (who finished with figures of 10-1-61-4). Thirimanne, meanwhile, was attempting to solider on, but
Ashwin (10-1-46-2) did not let him be, sweeping him off the pitch in the 47th over.
Sri Lanka’s tail-enders attempted to put up a fight, but by now it was too late for the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 (15*) to have any significant effect. Nevertheless, the duo managed a valiant unbeaten partnership of 32 runs, which
saw their side posting a final total of 251. Given India’s superb batting performance in the previous ODI, the second innings is bound to prove an uphill task for the Lankan bowlers.
