Sri Lanka v New Zealand – New Zealand in Sri Lanka ODI Series (3rd ODI) – Match Recap
A composed century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 saw Sri Lanka gaining a 2-0 lead after cruising to a 7-wicket victory in their rain-affected clash with New Zealand in the 3rd match of the ongoing ODI series, played at the Pallekele International
Cricket Stadium on November 6.
Having won the second ODI of the series by 14 runs (via D/L method), after the first match was abandoned due to rain, Sri Lanka won the toss in the 3rd ODI and put New Zealand to bat first. However, both teams had barely gotten settled in, with
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Nicol-c2331 (7) in the 3rd over, when play was interrupted by rain, with the Black Caps at 28 for 1 in 9 overs.
Once the match resumed, New Zealand were in for another loss as veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 (5-0-15-1) in the 11th over. The weather seemed unwilling to allow the match to proceed smoothly,
and rain interrupted play once again, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at 41 for 2 in the 14th over.
The game was shortened to 33 overs per side once the rain cleared up, and wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JDP-Oram-c1681 (2), and
both were undone by Jeevan Mendis (5-0-34-2) – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 run out by the 29-year-old leg-spinner, and Oram trapped lbw.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KMDN-Kulasekara-c1802 (7-1-45-1) intervened to
take Franklin out of the game.
His successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120 (22*) stuck it out at the crease for an unbeaten 71-run partnership
with Watling, which enabled the Kiwis to post a sizeable final total of 188 by the end of 33 overs.
The revised target for the host team was 197 from 33 overs, but the chase did not pose any problems for the Lankans, owing largely to a composed century from opener Dilshan (102* off 95), who saw the innings through until the end.
His fellow opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397
(5) were, on the whole, disappointing – the former was sent packing by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KD-Mills-c1781 (6.1-0-35-1), while the skipper fell prey to Nathan McCullum (5-0-28-1) in the 15th over, leaving his side at 73 for 3.
Angelo Mathews (54*), however, proved an effective partner for Player of the Match Dilshan, and the two joined forces for a massive unbeaten 127-run partnership for the 4th wicket, which easily got Sri Lanka up to 200, with 7 wickets and 11 deliveries
still remaining.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 firmly in the lead, and with only two more matches remaining, the Kiwis are now faced with the daunting task of winning both games if they are to have a hope of levelling the series. The fourth ODI is scheduled to be played at Hambantota on
November 10.
