Sri Lanka v New Zealand – New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka (2nd Test) – Live Cricket Score and Match Update [Day 4] – Kiwis cut Lions off at 244
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-Southee-c2659 joined forces to limit the host team to a final first innings total of 244 on the fourth day of the ongoing second Test, currently
being played at the P Sara Oval in Colombo today on November 28.
Twin centuries, from Kane Williamson (135) and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 (142), had seen the tourists building up a dominant stance, and the team looked set to post a gargantuan first innings total when Rangana Herath’s (49-10-103-6) strike cut them off, all out,
at 412.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 (4). The homes team’s Tharanga
Paranavitana (40) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 (47) attempted a comeback, but their 90-run partnership for the fourth wicket was brought to an abrupt end with Southee intervening to dismiss both batsmen.
Late on day three, however, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 stepped up to the crease. The right-hander proceeded to rack up an individual score of 76, and was joined by Suraj Randiv for a record 97-run partnership
for the 7th wicket. Day three ended with both batsmen as yet unbeaten, and Sri Lanka looking to be on an upward track, at 225 for 6.
All the progress made by the home team, however, proved in vain as Boult (21-7-42-4) and Southee (22-4-62-5) joined forces to mop up the remainder of the Lankan batting order early on day four. Samaraweera (76) and Randiv (39) were both sent packing early
by Boult – the former caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 at second slip, and the latter trapped lbw, as the young Kiwi pacer swung the new ball to great effect.
Southee chipped in to remove http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813 off Boult, and Sri Lanka found themselves cut off at 244,
with the visitors maintaining a first-innings lead of 168.
