Sri Lanka 300/2 (90.0 ov) v Pakistan - Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat
On the first day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the Lankans after winning the toss elected to bat and handsome pulverised the Pakistani bowling contingent as the batsman hammered an enormous total of 300 runs at stumps on Friday, at Galle
International Stadium.
After ending the T20 series on a draw and then losing the One Day International (ODI) series to the hosts by 3-1, Pakistan were expected to do well in the longest format of the game, but the bowlers were left in ruins and without any ideas as the Lankan
batsmen dominated the day’s play and prevented the bowlers from gaining any momentum.
Sri Lankan openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 took charge right from the word and bolstered an opening stand of 63 runs.
The two openers saw off Pakistan’s main strike bowlers, and then made headways as they gained momentum, which gradually increased the flow of runs steadily.
Finally Pakistan’s ace spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859, had decided it was enough and managed to break the partnership by grabbing the wicket of NT Paranavitana, who departed after scoring an innings of 24 runs off 59 deliveries.
However, Pakistan’s trouble were just about to begin as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 forged a resounding partnership alongside Dilshan to give Pakistan a run for their money and name the first day to Sri Lanka.
The duo proved just too good for the Pakistan bowlers, who looked meagre in front of the Sri Lankan batsmen, getting bulldozed for run at random.
Sangakkara’s innings was phenomenal, but not forget the resurgence of Dilshan, who after suffering a terrible year, has finally managed to regain his form as the batsman jabbed an inspiring innings of 101 runs off 180 deliveries before losing his wicket
to Ajmal.
With Ajmal as the only successful bowlers, the Sri Lankans didn’t have much to worry about as they played the rest of the Pakistani bowlers comfortably.
The partnership between Sangakkara and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 from making any further inroads as the batsmen stayed unbeaten on 111 and 55 runs to end the day on a high note.
