http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 showed remarkable improvement in their batting to post 247 in the ongoing fifth One Day International against Sri Lanka, played at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, June 18, 2012.
Following their embarrassing collapse in the previous game, which saw the hosts taking a 2-1 lead in the series, the Men in Green had all to play for after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 opted to bat first in an attempt to post something decent on the board.
While they managed to do that, it was a similar underperforming tale for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KMDN-Kulasekara-c1802 continued as he was cleaned up on a personal score of 6.
Farhat, who was making a comeback into the lineup at the expense of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193, who then went onto post an impressive
fifty. His stay however, was cut short by Thisara Perera after he was holed out at mid-wicket.
Azhar Ali then worked his way to a battling 30, only to throw it away after chipping the ball tamely to the cover fielder, with Jeevan Mendis claiming his first wicket. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 and Misbah consolidated the innings for a while before a mix-up between
the wickets resulted in the youngster walking back for 38.
However, the innings finally got the much-needed boost after Umar Akmal came to the crease. The promising youngster, along with his skipper, steadied the ship by adding 61 for the fifth-wicket. The partnership gave the visiting team a perfect platform from
where they could launch in to the Lankan bowling lineup in the final five overs but that notion was put to rest as wickets fell in a flurry.
Misbah miscued one, finding the fielder at deep, and departed for 32, and his successors failed to add substantially, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 falling cheaply. Umar hung around to add a few more quick runs but the Lankan bowlers held well in
the death, conceding just 22.
The youngster remained not out on 55, which included five fours and two sixes, partnered by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604, who made 2.
The batters have finally given the bowlers something to bowl at and it will be interesting to see how the Lankans approach the game when they come out to bat.
