Sri Lanka vs. Zimbabwe: Tillakaratne Dilshan powers Sri Lanka Lions past Rhodesians
Sri Lanka have defeated Zimbabwe by a massive margin of 139 runs in a Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011 played at Kandy on Thursday.
This victory has made sure that the home team qualifies for the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. The star for Sri Lanka was Tillakaratne Dilshan who picked up four wickets in the middle of the innings to break the back of the Zimbabwean batting line-up.
Chasing a big target under lights, Zimbabwe were off to a great start through Brendon Taylor and Regis Chakabva as both of them accumulated 116 runs for the first wicket in less than 20 overs. However, things started to fall apart for the Rhodesians after
the departure of the openers as the middle order batsmen failed to compliment the openers’ performance. As a result, the whole team was bundled out for a mere 188 runs in 39 overs.

Surprisingly, Dilshan was the pick of the bowlers for the home team as he claimed 4 scalps after conceding as many runs in just three overs. He was unlucky not to complete his hat-trick as Mahela Jayawardene dropped an easy catch in the first slip. Muttiah
Muralitharan picked up 3 wickets for 34 runs whereas Angelo Mathews also shined with a couple of wickets to help his team’s cause.
Dilshan was named as the Man of the Match for his brilliant hundred earlier in the day and four important wickets.
