Sri Lanka wants http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 clearance before they tour Pakistan
Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 is reluctant to visit Pakistan latter this year, as per the Future Tours Programme, due to security issues.
On invitation by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Willey-c81951 not send their team unless the International Cricket Council (ICC) gives full security assurance.
Sri Lanka was the last overseas team to play on the Pakistani soil. On http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 were on an official tour to Pakistan when some terrorists assaulted the team in Lahore, killing 8 people on the spot and leaving some players injured.
Since then, Pakistan has been experiencing an international cricket blackout. No team desires to visit Pakistan.
Due to its volatile security situation, Pakistan was deprived of the hosting rights for the ICC World Cup 2011.
Now, Pakistan is desperately looking for an international team to play on its soil. At the end of the World Cup, the PCB invited http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka for a home series, however, both the cricketing nations refused on security grounds.
Talking to the media here, the SLC Interim Committee Secretary, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713, said, “We told them our stance that we need security clearance first before sending a team there again.”
On the other hand, the committee http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dandeniyage-Somachandra-De-Silva-c52210, said that there were not going to play any series in Pakistan.
However, de Silva told, “We have also expressed our willingness to play either at the neutral venue in Dubai or in Abu Dhabi.”
Pakistan has been in an intense snare of terrorism and militancy since the dawn of 21st century. Terrorism has taken a great toll on Pakistan, both in terms of life and infrastructure.
Due to the absence of international cricket, the PCB is suffering from financial crises. The cricket crazy Pakistanis are not http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 with the situation either.
The ICC has a special Task Force that reviews security and other feasibilities before allowing a nation to play on foreign soil.
The SLC has forwarded their case to the TF, however, analysts believe ICC will not give security clearance since Pakistan is badly trapped in unabated terrorism.
