Sri Lanka win toss and elect to bat against India - ICC World Cup 2011 Final
Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bat first in the final of the ICC World Cup 2011 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in India. Both teams have been crowned as champions once and this will be a chance for them to add one more title to
their tally.
There was some confusion on the toss, as the match referee Jeff Crowe didn’t hear the call from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 captain Kumar Sangakkara. Due to this there had to be a re-toss, in which the coin rolled in favour of the visiting captain.
The wicket had very little grass on it, which wouldn’t trouble the batsmen much. However, English commentator http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 pitch. On the other hand, former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly claimed that the wicket
would assist the seamers early on, but he said that it was a bat first track.
There has been one change made to the Indian team today. Injured seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 wasn’t able to recover in time for the final and he was replaced by Sreesanth, who only played one game in the tournament until now.
There were a number of changes made in the Sri Lankan team for the final. Star all-rounder Angelo Mathews was forced out of the World Cup, due to an injury which he sustained in the semi-final match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. His replacement in the match was Thisara
Perera.
Other than Mathews, there were three more changes made to the Sri Lankan squad. Middle-order batsman Chamara Silva was dropped from the playing-11, following his poor run of form in the Mega Event. He was replaced by Chamara Kapugedera, who hasn’t played
a match in the tournament until now.
Spinners Rangana Herath and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 were also rested for the all important clash. Seamer Nuwan Kulasekara and off-spinner Suraj Randiv were given preference over the two.
There have been two World Cups played on the Subcontinent before this one. Sri Lanka is the only Asian team to have won the Mega Event here back in 1996. This will be a huge opportunity for the Lankan Lions to prove their dominance to the World.
