Sri Lankan Minister Declines Claims for SLPL Being Stalled: News Update
According to recent reports, the Sri Lankan sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, declined any claims against the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) being called off as a result of sponsorship issues and the exclusion of Indian players.
The SLPL will be the first edition to the domestic Twenty20 (T20) competition scheduled to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The season is programmed to begin on 19th July 2011 and carry on till 4th August.
The local tournament is set to be an inter-provincial contest featuring seven teams. The playing line-ups will include a mix of local and international cricketers. However, according to the rules set out by the SLPL officials, each team must consist of a
minimum of seven Sri Lankan players and maximum of four international players.
As far as the international participants are concerned, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) national selection committee will be responsible for placing the players depending on the need of each team.
Previously, the SLPL received excessive criticism from the Board of Control of Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 Entertainment.
In addition to these claims, the BCCI also came out loud after the board alleged former Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman, Lalit Modi’s involvement in the league. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Modi-c76470 declined all such claims.
As a result, the BCCI declined the No Objection Certificates for 12 Indian players from taking part in the upcoming Sri Lankan league.
As for the recent affair, the Sri Lankan minister cited that the league will proceed according to the scheduled fixtures with or without Indian players.
"The tournament will go ahead as per plan with or without the Indian players. There is no final word yet on the non availability of Indian players," added Aluthgamage.
The league’s supposed ‘shutting down’ rumors erupted after there were reports concerning monetary issues with the SLC that may have led to strapping down the SLPL.
However, according to the sports minister, the news emerged after Aluthgamage made an appeal to the BCCI for the release of Indian players.
