Sri Lankan Sports Minister slams the performance of the cricket team – Cricket News Update
Sri Lankan Sports Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, is not happy with the recent performances of the Sri Lankan cricket team and believes that the internal politics of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board is hampering performances of their players.
Sri Lanka emerged as a major cricketing force in international cricket after winning the World Cup in 1996 in the sub-continent. Since then, Sri Lanka has done exceedingly well at the highest stage of the game, however in the recent months the team's performance
has plummeted.
In the last six months, Sri Lanka has lost Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864 and Chaminda
Vaas.
The duo took the responsibility of Sri Lanka’s bowling for about a decade and a half and single-handedly won matches for their country. Muralitharan remains the highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket.
Sri Lankan Sports Minister feels that there are reasons apart from the cricketing point of view which are impeding the team from giving its best. Mahindananda believes that there is no team spirit at the moment, which is the major reason of dissonance among
players.
He said, "The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 cricket team is in a crisis situation. It is very unfortunate. The team is not clicking together off-field and it has shown in the results on the field".
The Sri Lankan cricket team is currently touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 where they lost the Test series by 1-2. It remains to be seen if the Islanders are able to give a tough time to South Africa in the limited overs version of the tour.
He further added that cricket officials in Sri Lanka must erase politics from the game if Sri Lanka is to regain its lost heights in international cricket.
"Once the team returns, I plan to meet them. I feel there is a lot of internal politics within the team that is spilling over to the cricket pitch", the sports minister added.
