Sri Lankan selectors name emerging squad – Cricket News Update
The newly appointed selection panel of Sri Lanka on Tuesday picked up a 24-member emerging squad from which a final team for the warm up match against Bangladesh in Matara will be selected.
The squad includes emerging players Akila Dananjaya, Tharindu Kaushal and Tharindu Kaushal. Whilst right-arm off-spinner Dananjaya made his international ODI and T20 debuts late last year, the other two are yet to earn their maiden
international caps in any format of the game.
The 22-year-old Perera has been in stunning form in the Premier League tournament. The young middle order batsman made two aggressive centuries and an impressive half century (87) in his three innings played so far.
Tharindu Kaushal, a 19-year-old off-spinner, also earned selectors’ nod on the basis of his impressive form in domestic cricket. It may be noted here that this is Kaushal’s first season of domestic cricket and he has already picked
22 one-day scalps at an average of 18.63, and 19 first class wickets at an astounding average of 8.89. The teenage off-spinner claimed three five wicket hauls in his first two first class matches. He was also picked up in the national squad for the home Test

Dananjaya, on the other hand, has been part of Sri Lanka's ODI and T20I squads since last year's World Twenty20 championship at home. He also has had a promising domestic season so far.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella, who bats at the top and was the 2012 schoolboy cricketer of the year, has also been picked in the 24-man emerging squad. Others making the cut include the 22-year-old opening batsman Ashen Silva
and middle order batsman Kithruwan Vithanage, who has scored heavily in the Premier League Tournament so far
