Under fire Sri Lankan captain, Tillakaratne Dilshan, is overwhelmed by his side’s successful run chase against South Africa in the fourth One Day International (ODI) on Friday, January 20, 2012 at De Beers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Minal-Mahesh-Patel-c76331 Oval, Kimberley.
Speaking in the post match ceremony, the 35-year-old Dilshan said, “Fantastic effort. We tried to keep them to 250-260, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 batted really well, at one stage I thought they could reach 350, but we came back well in the last 20 overs.”
The Sri Lankan skipper said that he wants his side to end the series on a high note and had the previous match not been washed away due to rain they might have prevented South Africa from winning that encounter.
“We want to finish the series strongly, unfortunately previous game was rained out or we might have had a good decider. I was under pressure, and I am happy to come back to form," he said.
After winning the toss, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 hammered 299 runs in their 50 overs to give Sri Lanka a daunting target of 300 runs to win the match.
From South Africa, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 were the highest scorers from their side as they smashed 68 and 96 runs to leave the Sri Lankan bowlers devastated.
Coming out to bat, the Sri Lankan batsmen needed to give a batting performance of a lifetime to avoid another defeat by the hands of the hosts.
Skipper, Dilshan gave a resilient performance as he hammered a sensational innings of 87 runs and played a vital role in guiding his side towards victory.
Before the fourth Test, Dilshan had received severe criticism from former Sri Lankan cricketers, who saw his poor captaincy as the root cause behind http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s recent dip in international cricket.
Meanwhile, South African captain, de Villiers, praised Sri Lankan batsmen for their commendable performance.
“Very good game, we batted quite well up front, could have scored more in the last 10. They batted really well, chased down 300,” said the South African captain.
