Srikanth K. delivers a stunner against Jan O Jorgensen in 2013 India Open
The young but spirited shuttler Srikanth K. registered his presence in Yonex Sunrise India Open by beating Jan O Jorgensen in the opening round of Men’s Singles event on April 24, 2013.
This epic tussle remained in full swing for 45 minutes as both contenders challenged each other in all areas of game while piling final figures of 21-7, 18-21 and 21-12.
The Indian campaigner laid foundation of his victory in the opening game and served notice of his dominance by claiming the final match point.
On the other hand, fourth seeded Jorgensen could rise on his toes only in the second set of match. His below par performance led him to a woeful exit from this prestigious event.
Srikanth started his campaign in perfect manner as he launched an intensive attack and pushed his rival on the back foot.
He did not make even a single mistake and established an unassailable lead in no time. His unbeatable strategy helped him to finish first half of the set with a respectable score position.
After the mid-game break, Srikanth played impeccable badminton and strengthened his grip over the game.
The Indian lad showed maturity in his craft and swept the table with an overwhelming total of 21-7.
However, things were not that much easy in the following game as the Danish shuttler employed all of his brilliance in the game and avoided a straight-set defeat.
This time, Jorgensen played carefully and did not allow his competitor to enjoy a permanent lead. He remained close on the points table until the half time.
After the one-minute break, the opposing shuttler made a swift progress and narrowed the gap on points table but Jorgensen managed to finish this crucial game with a favourable score. He registered a tight yet decisive margin of 21-18 and setup a nerve-racking
decider.
Unexpectedly, third set proved a one-sided affair as the local player relished full benefits of home ground and gave his supporters a solid reason to celebrate.
Srikanth laid foundation of his dominance immediately in the beginning and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
He placed a concluding figure of 21-12 and marched into pre quarter-finals of India Open.
