Srikanth K. stuns Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif in Men’s Singles first round at Malaysia Open GP Gold
India’s young player Srikanth K. proved his remarkable skills when he stunned Malaysia’s Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif in Men’s Singles first round in Malaysia, on Wednesday, May 2.
Srikanth, who is un-seeded in Men’s Singles main draw at Malaysia Open, showed put on gutsy performance as he easily overpowered the World Number 55 Arif who was the favourite to win this contest.
The young Indian proved that he has achieved higher level of skills as he did not show any mercy to Arif and wrapped up the contest in straight sets by taking just 28 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Arif failed to deliver a good performance despite having the huge support of his home fans.
The Malaysian failed to tackle the power play of his lower ranked India rival and crashed out in the opening round of Malaysia Open.
Right from the opening points, both shuttlers put up a sensational show of top quality badminton by playing remarkable badminton as they kept the pace or rallies fast and also did not miss any chance to earn points.
Until the break, it was Arif who took a small lead by putting up 11-9 score on the board.
In the second game, the Malaysian was ahead at 14-13 when Srikanth stunned everyone by playing tremendous badminton as he scored eight consecutive points and took the game with a 21-14 margin on the board.
In the second game, both shuttlers again played at the same speed and reached at 6-6 when Srikanth took over the affairs and started to dominate the pace of rallies.
The in-form Indian remained in complete control and managed to take 11-7 lead on the score board.
After the break, Srikanth continued his superb performance as he did not spare any chance for Arif to take control of rallies.
The Indian remained on course without losing his focus at any stage in the second set and easily bagged it with a superb score of 21-12.
Srikanth won this first-round contest against Arif in straight sets with a striking 21-14 and 21-12 margin on the board.
