Srujan Nandaluri stuns Oscar Bansal in qualifying round of 2012 India International Challenge
The young but talented Men’s Singles player Srujan Nandaluri proved his worth by stamping Oscar Bansal in the qualifying round of Tata Open India International Challenge on December 12, 2012.
He took just two games to wrap this showdown with a favourable result of 21-16 and 21-12.
This splendid win led him to the last stage of this round where he will lock horns with the Taipei campaigner Sheng-Jie Yang for a main round entry.
The spirited Indian shuttler will try to relish full benefits of home ground and Mumbai badminton lovers will be supporting him to reserve a spot in the main draw.
In his opening encounter, Srujan performed exceptionally well and amazed everyone by registering a straight-set victory over a higher ranked opponent.
Oscar Bansal, who was fourth seeded player in this round, looked completely dazzled in front of him.
Srujan set the ball rolling immediately in the first set and maintained that winning momentum all the way to final moments.
He raised his chances by establishing an unassailable lead in the beginning and then strengthened his grip with a respectable score position before the interval.
After the mid-game break, he gathered some pace and made a significant difference on the points table. He kept on pocketing valuable points without any interruption and piled up an overwhelming margin of 21-16.
This first set loss proved last nail in the coffin for Oscar as he could not come out of this deficit and crashed out of this International Challenge.
The second set started with Srujan dominating the overall pace of the rallies and making a swift progress. He did not lose this rhythm and strengthened his grip with an indomitable total before the half time.
Though, Oscar prevailed in couple of rallies and narrowed the gap in third quarter of set but his fluctuated performance put his expedition to halt.
On the other hand, Srujan showed consistency in his performance when it was needed the most and locked the honour in a commendable manner.
He maintained a significant lead until last shot was played and stole the limelight with scoreboard flashing 21-12 margin.
