Is living in St Andrews expensive? How does the prices compare to other living places in UK? I am particularly interested in food as I will be an undergrad. Is the town cheap in UK standards? Should I buy my food from nearby cities such as Edinburg? How can I have low budget in St Andrews?

  1. The most expensive thing in St Andrews is rent, it is much higher there (thanks to both the university and the tourism) than it is in nearby towns.

Foodwise, I don't think the prices are that much more expensive than in other parts of the UK. There is a Tesco, a Morrisons and, shortly, an Aldi. So competition will be strong keeping prices down.

Food prices, i believe, are pretty standard across the country.

One thing you will have to realise is that Edinburgh is not 'nearby'. It is 2 hours away by bus. If you want to shop for bigger items then you are much better taking the bus up to Dundee (about 30mins)

  2. St Andrews is one of the more expensive Scottish towns, you could go to nearby cities such as Anstruther which would be cheaper.
