Question:

St. Bernard Having Watery Stool and Vomit?

We have a 5 year old St. Bernard who weighs about 150 pounds. Since last night we have found 2 puddles of extremely watery diarrhea, with what looks like a small piece of grass in it, as well as it being extremely smelly. There was no blood in it that we could see, nor were there worms. We found a small pile of regurgitated dog food, almost whole with some chewed up pieces with it, on our deck. We just caught her 10 min. ago having the same watery diarrhea. Her food has not changed, she is caught up on her vaccines. She ate this morning and has drank water as well. It’s hard to tell with her if she is being lethargic because she is normally laid back/lazy. We have another dog and are a little scared that he too will become ill. We did come home day before yesterday to her being covered in mud, and we found a crater next to our deck that she was digging. She is not a digger, and she has never dug before. If she were to eat a mole or something would that cause her to be sick like this? She is still barking, wanting inside and all. We are just concerned. Any answer or suggestion would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

  1. Get her to the vet

  2. VET!!!!

  3. I like the look of a st. bernard. They are so cute.

  4. Since it's the weekend, you may want to try getting her into the vet to avoid costly E.R. vets over the weekend. If she seems fine otherwise, you can try withholding food for 24 hours and then feeding her a mixture of boiled hamburger or chicken and white rice. 2 parts rice, one part hamburger or chicken. That should help with the diarrhea. But if she gets any worse, seems lethargic, seems feverish, or displays any other symptoms, get her to a vet before she gets any worse.

Bloat is always a possibility in larger dogs like St. Bernards too. I would definitely recommend taking her to the vet over anything. Call right now and see what they say.

  5. WE have a saint too get that dog to the vet right away stop every thing it could be bloat

  6. Ideally you really should get her check out by a vet. As most of us aren't vets nor do we work in a vets office we can only give you our opinions and in most cases opinions aren't nearly as good as vet care.

If you cannot get to a vet or an emergency clinic i would try putting her on boiled Hamburgand rice for a few days until you can get her to a vet and keep a very very close eye on her.

  7. This sometimes happens with my St. Bernard  as well. And since she has been digging, she may have likely ingested something tat doesn't agree with her. Give her a day or so to see if it improves before you start worrying. I think it will clear up on it's own
