St. Francis volleyball struggling with just one victory in 2011 Season
This is probably not what the St. Francis Women’s Volleyball team had planned before the start of 2011 Season. The SFC Terriers opened the season in August with high expectations. The Head Coach, Micah Acoba, spent plenty of time in preparing his team for
a great performance in the season. The St. Francis College team achieved its best conference record under the supervision of Acoba in 2010. Nevertheless, the running season did not bring good luck for Terriers as they lost most of their matches. Currently,
SFC Terriers are struggling with an overall record of 1-14.
SFC Terrier Invitational
The Terriers got a great opportunity to catch the limelight as they opened the season with SFC Tournament at home soil. The SFC Terrier Invitational ran from August 26-27 in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Terriers played three matches and failed to profit the
home advantage. New Jersey Institute of Technology posted the first win over Terriers in the first match, while Rider University team defeated the hosts in next match. Third match against Fordham Rams was cancelled but Terriers settled for 0-3 at the SFC Invitational.
Next up, Lafayette Leopards and St. John University team defeated Terriers in the two non-conference matches on August 30th and 31st, respectively.
Hofstra Invitational
The Terriers tried to seize their chances at the next stop in Hempstead, New York, where Hofstra Invitational brought them in competition with hosts Hofstra University team, Princeton Explorers, and Fairfield University team. The tournament featured three
matches and SFC team failed to create any spark on the centre court. They dropped two matches in straight sets, while managed to capture one set against Explorers in the second match. Hofstra Invitational covered its length in two days, September 2-3, while
Terriers claimed 0-3 at the end of campaign.
Finally, the fortunate day came and SFC Terriers managed to record their first win of the season against volleyball team from Saint Peters College. The match was held on September 6 and final scores stated 3-2 (23-25, 26-24, 25-18, 16-25, 15-11).
Providence Tournament
The Provident Invitational ran from September 9-10. Teams from Coppin State University, hosts Providence College and Lafayette Leopards joined the Terriers. St. Francis team once again badly collapsed and finished with 0-3 record.
Colombia Tournament
In the recent memory, Terriers participated in the Colombia Tournament which continued from September 16-17. St. Francis team received back-to-back defeats on both days of the tournament. With the loss of another four matches, SFC reached 1-14 record in
the 2011 season.
