St. Helens' stadium to be renamed Langtree Park - Rugby League update
While addressing a press conference on Wednesday, November 16, St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus confirmed that Saints will rename their new playing arena Langtree Park after gaining the naming rights for the £20 million Stadium.
Expressing his views about the latest development within Saints quarters, their chairman stated, "Securing a naming-rights deal was a big part of the new stadium plan and we're delighted to extend our relationship with Langtree. Langtree has done a fantastic
job on the stadium and we know that once the stadium fit-out is complete that it's going to be the best arena in the country to watch rugby league."
McManus further added that everyone at the club is looking forward to play at their officially owned Langtree Park, where Saints’ fans can watch their side taking on others in contention.
At the beginning of next year, on Friday, January 20, Saints will inaugurate play at the facility, during their exhibition game of the Karalius Cup 2012 where they will clash against Widnes.
Ahead of this friendly game against Widnes, a string of events will draw in supporters, local residents, councillors and business leaders to a trial visit of the venue.
Prior to this development, St Helens shared the playing facility with Widnes during 2011 after they had left Knowsley Road, where they have played 120 years together.
The stadium was under construction for a little over a year, which finished during the last month, October. The playing arena has a capacity of 18,000 seats, which has been handed over to Saints, so that they can fix up the interior of the Stadium, in accordance
to the team’s preferences.
The stadium is part of a long term development scheme including a new Tesco Extra store stretching over 145,000 sq ft, with the residential properties constructed on the Knowsley Road site and along with enhanced public realm area.
An estimate of £8 million investment has been made by Saints for the project which included the building of a new footbridge linking the stadium to the town centre.
