St Helens hands over ten youngsters their first professional Rugby League contracts
English rugby league club, St Helens RLFC, has handed over 10 professional contracts to their academy products. The club has confirmed the inking of deals with 10 young and talented players in a statement released on their official website on Wednesday, July 13. The contracts are the first professional contracts for these youngsters.
The players who were offered deals include Andre Savelio, Ben Parry, Greg Richards, Jordan Heaton, Matthew Fozard, Lewis Charnock, Lewis Galbraith, Luke Thompson, Matt Wood and Tom Roughley.
St Helens RFC head of Youth, Mike Rush, has congratulated the youngsters on signing their first professional contracts. He added, “This latest crop of talented players have been within our structures for a minimum of 12 months and their signings is a great reward for their efforts, determination and commitment.”
Speaking on the occasion Rush also thanked the efforts of the coaching and support staff for the role they have played in the development and grooming of the players.
Rush further added, “They (Youngsters) have all progressed in their time with us far and have put themselves in a strong position to push forward towards Super League honours in the next five years.”
Three out of the ten players play in the back row forwards positions, two as hookers, two as centres and a one each at prop, scrum half and at full back position.
Back row Andre Savelio plays for the Latchford Amateur club. Both Lewis Charnock and Matt Wood play for Rylands Amateur club as full back and back row forward respectively. Hookers Matthew Fozard and Tom Roughley have previously played for West Bank and Pilkington Recs respectively. Centres Ben Parry and Lewis Galbraith have represented Chorley Panthers and Saddleworth & Oldham St Annes respectively.
 The remaining Greg Richards, Jordan Heaton and Luke Thompson play as  prop, scrumhalf and back row. Greg Richards plays for amateur clubs Chorley Panthers & Barrow Island while Jordan Heaton and Luke Thompson play for Ince Rose Bridge and Bold Miners & Pilkington Recs respectively.
