St Helens inks deal with young players Tom Makinson and Scott Hale - Rugby League
English Rugby League club, St Helens, also known as Saints, has announced the signing of new deals with their young pair of Tom Makinson and Scott Hale. Officials at the club have confirmed the signing of the utility back player, Tom Makinson, and back row forward, Scott Hale, in a statement released on their website on Thursday, August 18.
Saints have handed over a one-year professional deal to Hale and a two-year contract to Makinson.
St Helens head coach, Royce Simmons, has expressed his delight on retaining the services of both players for the club. He has expressed his pleasure with the performance of the young players for them in the ongoing season.
Simmons added, “Both Tommy and Scott have had more first team opportunities than we envisaged this year due to first team injuries, but have both grasped them well.” He expressed his confidence that the duo will continue to work hard and further develop their game.
The 19-year-old Makinson joined the St Helens at the start of the 2011 Super League season, from the Wigan based Amateur club, Wigan St Judes.
During the season, Makinson made 17 appearances for Saints and has scored 38 points for them. The 38 points consists of nine tries and a goal.
Wigan born player Makinson is very versatile at can play at both fullback and at centre positions. He has made his name thanks to good defensive and strong attacking skills.
Haydock born Hale joined St Helens at the start of the 2011 Super League season. He is yet to play his first game at the starting XV but has already made a couple of appearances for St Helens from the bench.
St Helens is currently placed third in the 2011 Engage Super League table with 33 points. They have won 15 of the 24 games they have played so far in the season. They will play their next match against Hull Kingston Rovers on Sunday, August 21.
