St Helens signs an early contract extension with utility forward Chris Flannery – Rugby news
English rugby league club, St Helens RLFC, have extended the contract of their star second row forward Chris Flannery.  Officials have confirmed the pre-mature extension in contract for the former Australian Rugby League player in a statement released on
their website on Tuesday, July 12.
The statement read, “ST HELENS RFC has extended the contract of former Australian State of Origin back rower Chris Flannery for one more year from 2012.”
New South Wales born Flannery started his professional rugby league career with Sydney Roosters in 2000 and remained there until 2006. He played 126 games for Roosters and scored 152 points, comprising of 38 tries. Before joining the St Helens RLFC, Flannery
also played 10 games for Queensland in the State of Origin tournament.
The 31-year-old Flannery joined St Helen RLFC in the start of the 2007 Super League season on a three-year contract. In 2010, his contract was renewed by two years and the club statement on Tuesday will take his stay at the club to six years 
Flannery has made 107 appearances including the 12 appearances in the current Super League season.  He has scored 140 points so far for St Helens RLFC.
Commenting on his extension of the contract, Flannery said, “I'm very happy to be adding another season, particularly as the club will be moving into its own fabulous new stadium then.” He further added, “I have spent a great four years at the Saints.”
St Helens RLFC club Chairman, Eamonn McManus, has expressed his delighted on retaining the services of the star utility forward player. He has praised Flannery’s skills, abilities and personality. McManus said, “He sets a great example, in terms of responsibility,
attitude and commitment, to our younger players and is a key personality in the squad. Chris is a great clubman as well as team member.”
St Helens RLFC Head Coach Royce Simmons said, “Chris is a seasoned and proven professional and adds both substance and versatility to the squad.” He also expressed his satisfaction on the signing of the contract with the Flannery and he termed his retention
as good news for the team.
