Question:

St. John Ambulance: Uniform?

When you join SJA as a first aider, is your initial uniform provided free of charge, or do you have to purchase this yourself (noticed they sell uniform on a shop in their site :S ) ?

Also, as a first aider... how long does the First aid at work course take to complete? Can you determine this based on how many hours you want to do it, or will they set you up a programme with fixed times in which you have no say in..?

Cheers

Don't know about the uniform, but the courses all change next year, so try this link.

  3. re the uniform, it's very much down to the individual group. When I went, we were asked to pay a £10 contribution towards your first, unless you were a cadet, which was free.

The first aid at work course has a legal minimum for (i think) 40 hours, unless it has changed recently. This is because the course is a legally recognised qualification, so you can't just do the exam, you must do the full course with the minimum hours. When I did mine, I did it over 2 week ends - 4 x 10 hours.

Just to add, unless it's changed, the FAW certificate is only valid for 4 years, after which I think you have to do the whole course again.
