St. Kentigern College leads 2012 Harken Schools Regatta on Day 1– Sailing News
After putting up a marvellous sailing show of the first day of the 2012 Harken Schools Regatta, the St. Kentigern College team of Michelle Tait, Jake Tyndall, Jess Allen and Joseph Kearney successfully placed themselves on top of the Group A fleet with five
points after five races. Tait and her team performed brilliantly on Day 1 to hit five bullets and finish the day with glory.
Tait participated in the National Youth Training Weeks and the Harken Youth International Match Racing Championships before she came to take part in the 2012 Harken Schools Regatta. The experiences of sailing in her Elliott 7’s in the previous two regattas
gave her team a lot of confidence to do their best in the Harken School regatta.
They really showed some perseverance sailing their small keelboats during the regatta and maintained their dominance over the fleet from the beginning. Katie de Lange, the onboard coach and current RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme member spoke
about the skipper that she had a good sail and with obvious confidence in her crew which really paid off.
Sailing team from KeriKeri High School skippered by Sam Brierly finished on second podium place overall in Group A. The KeriKeri High School team is defending their title they won last year under the leadership of O’Shea Butler. Sam was a crew member of
the winning team at that time. Two teams of the KeriKeri High School are sailing in the regatta this year and they are keen to retain the title.
Meanwhile, the third position in Group A is occupied by Kings College team which is sailing under the captaincy of Jack Collinson. The Kings College team was runner-up last year and they are still looking to claim the title this year.
