St. Louis Blues Andy McDonald looking forward to rejuvenating season -NHL Update
Looks like Andy McDonald is in the mood to play some hockey already as the 35-year-old, according to NHL.com, reassessed himself over the offseason and feels better than ever before and ready to get back on the ice as soon as possible.
"Physically, I feel 25 again and I'm really looking forward to this year," McDonald said. "I'm really looking forward to it. I feel better this year than I did last year. I think you play so many years with injuries and things going on, you don't realize
what good health is. I feel great. I had a really good offseason. I'm healthy."
Entering his 12th National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and fourth with the St. Louis Blues, McDonald might not have been the best player in the league, but has been certainly one that makes his team perform better in an overall sense.
Most of his career lasted with the Anaheim Ducks in California, but now playing on the other side with St. Louis, McDonald seems to have changed himself for the better. He might not have been able to put up 85 point (34 goals, 51 assists) like he did back
in 2005-2006 with the Ducks, but seems to have the confidence to play that way again in the near future.
"Physically, I probably wasn't where I wanted to be because you really take advantage to having the offseason to get your strength," McDonald said. "When you go through a concussion, there's a good portion of the time where you're not doing anything, you're
not training.”
Due to various injuries, including a concussion, McDonald suffered big time in terms of performance as he was limited to just 25 games last season and 58 in the one before it. In a total of 648 games played throughout his colourful career, the veteran forward
has 468 points (175 goals, 293 assists) and 264 minutes in the penalty box.
It will definitely be interesting to see next season how Andy McDonald plays primetime hockey and helps St. Louis Blues reach their ultimate destination, the Stanley Cup Finals, which they nearly did this time around after ending second in the Western Conference.
