St. Louis Blues Jaroslav Halak signs on with Germany's Lausitzer -NHL Lockout Update
Goalies might have it tough during the lockout, in terms of finding enough opportunities abroad, but St. Louis Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak is reported by multiple sources, to have signed on with Lausitzer, a professional hockey club in the German league.
According to ESPN, his agent, Allan Walsh, announced the move via social media networking website, Twitter, on Wednesday that the goalie has indeed made the move, but some sources also cite a different team along with the Walsh not having made anything official
as well.
Halak is a 27-year-old native of Bratislava, Slovakia, and an integral part of the St. Louis Blues National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. During the past 2011-2012 NHL regular season, Halak was an extremely important part of the club as they made history
by finishing second in the Western Conference and reaching the semi-finals as well during the playoffs.
The Blues goalie was drafted as the 271st overall back in round-nine of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens and has proved to be one of the most valuable in the league for sure. He has four seasons under his belt with the Montreal
Canadiens, his original draft team, and two with the St. Louis Blues, a team which he has managed to adjust quite well with.
In total, the goaltender has played 204 games up until now and has 109 wins to his name along with 67 losses. He also maintains a .918 save percentage with 2.43 goals-against average but this past season was really a breakthrough. In 46 games played, the
net minder registered 26 wins, along with gaining one of the best save percentages in his career at .926, and a really impressive 1.97 goals-against average.
He was surprisingly even better during the intense playoffs but recording a .935 save percentage and 1.73 goals-against average during the two postseason matchups he participated in.
Alongside Brian Elliott, who amazed everyone with a 1.56 goals-against average this past season, the St. Louis Blues have without a doubt, one of the best goalie line-ups in the league and hope to continue capitalising off that in the coming seasons.
