St. Louis Blues President John Davidson leaving Franchise, could be heading to Columbus Blue Jackets
The St. Louis Blues lost a key member of their front office, President John Davidson, whose resignation was announced on Friday, October 5, 2012, by the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise.
No clear reason behind the move has been confirmed as of yet, but sources from the Columbus Dispatch are terming it to be affiliated with a meeting he recently had with the Columbus Blue Jackets and team owner, John P. McConnell.
The 59-year-old was part of the club prior to the new, local ownership taking over and rumoured to have created differences amongst the two stakeholders. In order to not be a burden on the franchise with his four-year contract, of which three years remained,
Davidson cited that it would be best for him to leave.
"There's no animosity at all," Davidson said, according to The Associated Press. "When you see new ownership purchasing pro sports clubs, there's always going to be change. Tom and I have had a number of discussions. It took a while, but we found some common
ground with our discussions ... we chatted about expenses and contracts and we just came to a conclusion that my contract would be a burden on the club."
Davidson signed on with the St. Louis Blues prior to the 2011-2012 NHL regular season and was seen to be a major contributor to their success that hockey year as the St. Louis club not only made the playoffs, but did so in a staggering way ending the season
at number two in the Western Conference.
As long as his relationship with the owner of the Columbus Blue Jackets goes, Davidson has not tried to hide it at all by saying another meeting should be expected in the future.
“I’d meet with them again, absolutely," Davidson told the Columbus Dispatch. "We had a very productive discussion, just sharing thoughts and getting an understanding for what they feel about their franchise. I liked what I heard from them, and I liked what
I saw that day."
Anything sudden should not be expected from the St. Louis Blues ex-President, since he has made sure to take his time before making any final decision about his career.
