St. Louis’ Blues T.J. Oshie out with broken ankle
The St. Louis Blues’ first loss in eight games proved to be more costly then the team had imagined. The team’s official website has reported that centre/right-winger T.J. Oshie will be
sidelined for an indefinite period of time with a broken left ankle.
Oshie suffered the injury during the third period when Samuel Pahlsson of the Columbus Blue Jackets fell on top of him during a battle for the puck. The Blues would go on to lose to the
Blue Jackets by a score of 8-1, their worst defeat of the season thus far.
Forwards Nick Drazenovic and Chris Porter have been called up from the Peoria Rivermen, St. Louis’ American Hockey League affiliate, to replace Oshie in the line-up.
Drafted 24th overall by the Blues in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry draft, Oshie made his big-league debut in the 2008-09 season. He played in 57 games, during which he scored 14
goals and 25 assists for a total of 39 points. He followed up that performance with a 48-point (18G, 30A) campaign in 2009-10. Oshie had scored one goal and nine assists in 13 games with the Blues before going down with the injury.
Oshie is the second Blues player to be shelved with an injury. Left-winger David Perron is currently out with concussion-related symptoms which he sustained after a hit to the head from
centre Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks. Thornton later received a two-game suspension from the league as a result of the hit.
Despite being routed by the Blue Jackets in their last game, the Blues are currently sitting in second place overall in the Western Conference standings. They have 20 points and a record
of 9-2-2, and are scheduled to play their next game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday, 11 November at 20:00.
